The short answer

Choose silicone if you want a doll that lasts, holds crisp facial detail and is easy to keep clean. Choose TPE if your budget is tight and you prefer a very soft, squishy feel and accept more maintenance.

Durability and detail

silicone is a cross-linked thermoset: once cured it won't melt, and it resists tearing at stress points like the armpits and inner thighs better than most TPE blends. It also captures pores, wrinkles and fingerprints from the original sculpt. Thermoplastic elastomers are softer but more prone to permanent dents and stretched seams over time.

Hygiene and cleaning

silicone is non-porous, so it doesn't absorb water, oils or dyes. TPE is slightly porous; it needs thorough drying, regular renewal powder and care to avoid colour transfer from dark clothing. Our care guide covers both.

Price

A full-size mini love doll usually costs two to three times more than a comparable TPE model. Hybrid builds — a silicone head on a TPE body — split the difference. See typical ranges in our price guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is silicone better than TPE?

For durability, detail and hygiene, yes. TPE is softer and cheaper, so it suits buyers prioritising price and feel.

Can you tell silicone and TPE apart?

silicone feels slightly firmer and smoother and doesn't feel oily; TPE is softer, stretchier and often slightly tacky.

What is a hybrid doll?

Usually a silicone head paired with a TPE body, giving silicone-level facial realism at a lower total price.
